When Gon succeeded, he did not feel that he earned taking Hisoka’s badge. He attempted to return it, only to be punched in the face and told Gon that only when Gon is able to punch him the same way, would he take his badge back. Gon and his teammates reached the end of the Trick Tower at the end of the third phase of the Hunter Exam and faced two choices. One was to take a pathway where all 5 could exit the tower, an arduous path, or they could take a far easier and shorter path, but it would result in just three of them getting out.
Leorio already lost time that they had to exit the tower after losing a battle to Leroute, leaving the entire team essentially no option but to take the longer route and pass the third phase of the trials together. But Gon devised a plan that would allow them to take the longer path, but also break through a wall between the longest path and the shortest. The team was able to fully exit in time and complete the third phase of the exam together.
7. Beating Neferpitou
Pitou was one of humanity’s greatest threats, and even though it nearly cost Gon his life, he was determined to avenge Kite and was able to defeat his foe in battle. After making temporary contact with his Nen, once he learned about Kite’s death, he was able to fast-track himself to a future version of his strongest self. By compressing a stunning amount of power into just minutes, he had gathered enough strength to defeat Pitou. It resulted in Gon destroying his body, but luckily for him, Killua was determined to heal all of his severe injuries, a venture which fortunately proved successful.
8. Persistence In Finding His Father
One of Gon’s main missions and one of the primary premises of Hunter x Hunter is his unyielding search for his father. As a result, fans of the series witnessed Gon endure unimaginable trauma. But he never gave up on his mission and his determination paid off when he finally found his father, albeit unintentionally. Fans expected a heartwarming, emotional reunion, but what they got was a rather hilarious meeting with Gon crying about everything he endured, while Ging acted rather awkwardly.
9. Saving Killua
After being manipulated by Illumi, his older brother, Killua failed to pass the Hunter Exam. He was tricked into killing another participant, so he didn’t pass and was returned to the Zoldyck household. Gon would not stand for that type of injustice, so along with Leorio and Kurapika, made it a mission to bring Killua back.
After enduring a hellish journey, Killua finally realized that his friends were risking their lives to save him.
